Biography

World-renowned as one of the funniest and sexiest stars today, Sofia Vergara is an Emmy® Award, Golden Globe® and Screen Actors Guild (SAG)-nominated actress. She played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on ABC's Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning hit comedy "Modern Family." Vergara won the 2017 People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy Actress for her work on the show.

She was last seen in James Oakley's "The Con Is On," starring alongside Uma Thurman, Alice Eve and Crispin Glover; and in "The Female Brain," directed by Whitney Cummings, starring Cummings, Alysia Reiner, James Marsden and Cecily Strong. Vergara also starred in Robert Moresco's "Bent," opposite Karl Urban and Andy Garcia, which released in 2018. In 2019, Vergara was in the independent film "Bottom of the 9th," directed by Raymond De Felitta, starring opposite Joe Manganiello and Denis O'Hare.

In 2015, Vergara starred opposite Reese Witherspoon in the buddy comedy "Hot Pursuit" for Warner Bros Studios. In addition to starring in the comedy, Vergara served as producer of the film. Other recent film appearances include starring opposite Woody Allen and Sharon Stone in John Turturro's "Fading Gigolo," as well as co-starring in Open Road Films' "Chef" with Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr., and Simon West's "Wild Card" with Jason Statham.

Onstage in 2009, Vergara earned rave reviews when she debuted in the Broadway production of "Chicago" as Mama Morton.

In the Hispanic market, some of her past TV credits include "Fuera de Serie," as well as her special guest appearance on 2008's highest-rated Spanish language soap opera, "Fuego en la Sangre," on the No. 1 U.S. Hispanic network, Univision. Additionally, she executive produced the Spanish version of "Desperate Housewives." The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard have also named her one of the most talented and powerful women in Hispanic entertainment.

Vergara successfully crosses over from her original audience of Hispanic consumers and spreads her influence across all demographics on a daily basis with her retail lines. She serves as the global ambassador for Head & Shoulders and is currently in her sixth year with Rooms To Go, designing a furniture collection. Her fragrances "Sofia by Sofia Vergara," "Love," "Tempting" and "Tempting Paradise" are available globally. In 2017, Vergara teamed up with Renata Black and the Seven Bar Foundation to launch EBY, a subscription-based underwear company that sends customers three pairs of new panties every three months. Ten percent of net sales from the line go toward the nonprofit foundation, which helps empower women by microfinancing their businesses.

In 1994, Vergara founded Latin World Entertainment with business partner Luis Balaguer, which has grown from a management agency for top Hispanic talent to a multiservice company offering a 360-degree approach and is now the premier Hispanic talent management and entertainment marketing firm in the United States. It is through Latin World Entertainment that she recently announced the launch of the digital media startup Raze, which will produce Latin-centered content spanning scripted and unscripted formats on multiple platforms.

In addition to her success as an actress and entrepreneur, Vergara is also committed to being active through various philanthropic endeavors, which includes working closely with St. Jude. Additionally in 2001, Vergara created Peace and Hope for the Children of Colombia, a charity foundation that has helped thousands of children in her country. She has also donated a pediatric cancer pavilion in her native city Barranquilla and currently dedicates her time giving back to this charity in her home of Colombia.

Vergara currently resides in Los Angeles with her family.
