Biography

Jake Johnson is a versatile actor with hilarious and engaging performances on both the big and small screen. Up next, Johnson will star in ABC's new fall drama "Stumptown," opposite Cobie Smolders, which follows an Army veteran turned private investigator who finds herself operating outside of common law.

Johnson will also executive produce and lend his vocal talents to Netflix's highly anticipated adult animated series "Hoops," created by Ben Hoffman. The series centers around a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks turning around his God-awful team will take him to the big leagues.

Recently, Johnson stars as Peter B. Parker in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," the newest addition to the Spider-Man universe. Released by Sony in December 2018, the critically acclaimed film won the Golden Globe®, BAFTA, Critics' Choice and Academy Award® in the category of Best Animated Film. In 2018, Johnson starred in the feature comedy "Tag," opposite Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Rashida Jones and Isla Fisher; and the comedy short "To Plant a Flag," opposite Seth Morris, Jason Schwartzman and Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson. In 2017, Johnson wrote, produced and starred in "Win It All." Johnson also starred in the reimagining of the classic thriller "The Mummy," opposite Tom Cruise and directed by Alex Kurtzman. In 2016, Johnson appeared in "Smurfs: The Lost Village" with Demi Lovato and Joe Manganiello; "Jurassic World" with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard; and his second film with director Joe Swanberg, "Digging for Fire," in which Johnson co-wrote the script with Swanberg and starred alongside Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt and Brie Larson.

Johnson's other film credits include the box office hit comedy "Let's Be Cops," alongside Damon Wayans Jr.; "Drinking Buddies," opposite Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston; and director Jenee LaMarque's independent film "The Pretty One," alongside Zoe Kazan. Johnson also co-starred in "21 Jump Street," alongside Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill; "Safety Not Guaranteed," opposite Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass; "No Strings Attached," written by "New Girl" creator Liz Meriwether; and "Ceremony," opposite Uma Thurman and Michael Angarano.

For his role on "New Girl," Johnson was nominated for a 2013 Television Critics Association Award in the category of Individual Achievement in Comedy. In 2009, Johnson starred in "Paper Heart" with Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera. The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Johnson is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Currently, he resides in Los Angeles.
