Beginner actor wanting advice
Okay. So here's the situation. I started taking modeling classes at John Casablanca's several months ago. I could hardly believe it that they actually liked me. They invited me to join their advanced acting classes. Apparently, I've been doing very well in those because only a month into taking the classes they want to get me an agent and send me out of town to audition. Absolutely unbelievable to me.

So I am 30 years old and I live in Toledo Ohio. Last year I bought a house. I work at the county courthouse where i get full government benefits, a steady paycheck, and a boss that refuses to lay off his employees. Pretty cushy for a cubical job. In today's economy I do not want to drop everything and move to New York to be a struggling actress. Metaphorically speaking, I don't want to jump into the pool without knowing there's water there and a lifeguard on duty. You know what I mean? However, my acting teacher is really pushing New York, Broadway...even long term Broadway touring groups.

Now, I've researched SAG. They really have good benefits. I've also researched other unions. They all seem to have branches in Chicago and Detroit. Toledo isn't far from those cities. Is it possible to do regional work, not miss any time in my normal, 8am-5pm, 5 days a week job that can get me the experience I need to join a union that can replace my courthouse benefits before I start branching out to find something steady enough to keep my house up in this economy in the entertainment business?

I want very badly to be an actor/singer. But I don't want to lose my job or my house. Is this possible?

Wonderful experience with Lev from WWW.GORNPHOTO.C
Hey Guys - I just had my headshots done with Lev from WWW.GORNPHOTO.COM. He was unbelievably relaxing and awesome to work with, which was an experience I was afraid I wasn't going to find. I had a blast last Friday and, in retrospect, am so ecstatic with the decision to go with Lev to get my headshots. What people say about him on his website is actually without a doubt true! Something you don't expect to find often. I couldn't be happier with the whole process.

In Need of Advice
I have a 6yr old niece who is begging to be on television- we think this is just a phase, but at such a young age she is really passionate about it. We thought we would appease her, until she tires of it. We live somewhat close to NYC (about 5-6hrs) and wanted to take her there for a day and maybe attend a casting call for a commercial (perhaps the process of waiting and all will change her mind or enhance it, who knows)- but I have searched and searched and haven't been able to find info on where to find upcoming calls. We really know nothing of the process- and when I stumbled on this site I became hopeful that someone may provide some insight. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated- I thank you in advance!

RE: Please help
If you don't live near any opportunities, make some of your own. You can buy a small camera and make clips of yourself acting and put them up on youtube. MANY people get famous doing this and it is fun. Maybe a nice solution for you until you are older and can explore other opportunities. My children love the RCA Small wonder camera Good luck to you!
