Tobey Maguire
Tobias Vincent Maguire was born on June 27, 1975 in Santa Monica, California. He shot to fame with his iconic role as Peter Parker a.k.a Spiderman. His father Vincent Maguire is a construction worker while his mother Wendy Brown, is a screenwriter and producer. At the time of his birth, his parents were unmarried. He spent most of his childhood moving from town to town and living with each parent at a time. During his childhood, Maguire has dreamt of becoming a chef and his mother gave him $100 to enroll in a drama class instead. Who would have thought that was the wisest move of his life.

Hollywood Calling
Maguire saw his first movie release in 1989 with 'The Wizard'. He played Lucas Barton, one of the bad guys. In the early 1990's, he worked as a child actor and also played roles that were much younger than his chronological age. He appeared in a different commercials and movie roles working opposite the likes of Chuck Norris (Walker, Texas Ranger), Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), and Tracey Ullman (Tracey Takes On...). Finally after a long wait Maguire was cast as the lead in the FOX TV series 'Great Scott'.

This was the same time when he also had to compete with another rising child star actor Leonardo DiCaprio. They became fast friends and made an informal pact to help each other get a part in their TV shows, movies or other projects. Both of them auditioned for the same part in the 'Parenthood,' the 1990 TV series. DiCaprio got the role and got Maguire a guest role. It happened again when DiCaprio was cast in the 1993 Robert DeNiro movie 'This Boy's Life,' where Maguire got to play DiCaprio's friend.

Later after a stint with alcoholism, Maguire changed his career path to obtain roles where he and DiCaprio were not in competition and the move paid off. Maguire got the role of Paul Hood, a teenage boarding school student in Ang Lee's 1997 film, 'The Ice Storm'. This led to his getting the role of a thoughtful boy coming of age, in films like 'Pleasantville,' 'The Cider House Rules,' and 'Wonder Boys'.

Then came 'Spiderman'! Maguire starred as Peter Parker and Spiderman in 2002 and shot to superstardom with this Sam Raimi release. 'Spiderman' was based on the popular Marvel comic book series. He came back with the reprisal in 'Spiderman 2' (2004) and 'Spiderman 3' (2007). Maguire's performance as Spiderman earned him some great reviews.

In 2003, Maguire gave another hit as the jockey John M. "Red" Pollard in the much acclaimed film 'Sea biscuit'. It is based on the famous US racehorse Seabiscuit. This was followed by his first villainous role as Corporal Patrick Tully in Steven Soderbergh's 'The Good German' in 2006. Soon Maguire moved into the realm of filmmaking and producing. His production credits include '25th Hour' (2002),' Whatever We Do' (2003), and Seabiscuit (2003).

Trivia
Maguire has had relationships with Jennifer Meyer (daughter of Universal Studios executive Ron Meyer), and Rashida Jones (actress; daughter of legendary music producer Quincy Jones).
His fiancee, Jennifer Meyer, gave birth to a baby girl on November 9, 2006.
He hates heights unlike Spiderman.
