Jessica Marie Alba was born on April 28, 1981 in Pomona, California. Her father Mark Alba is of Mexican descent while her mother Cathy Jensen belongs to a Danish and French-Canadian ancestry. Jessica's father was in the Air force and hence they traveled a lot. After traveling from California to Biloxi, Mississippi, and Del Rio, Texas the family finally came back to settle in California. As a child, Jessica had fragile health and had to miss school on several days at a stretch due to bouts of pneumonia or other forms of physical illness like burst appendix, cyst on her tonsils and asthma.

Jessica showed her interest towards acting at the age of five and took acting classes when she was twelve. Nine months later, she was signed by an acting agent.

Ladder to Fame
Alba appeared in two television commercials, one was for Nintendo and the other for J.C. Penney. After the commercials, she diversified into televisions and played the role of an insufferable snob in three episodes of a Nickelodeon comedy series called 'The Secret World of Alex Mack' in 1994. Alba played Maya, a character in 'Flipper,' another TV series.

Alba's first appearance was in the film 'Camp Nowhere' in 1994. She was initially taken for a small two week role but later when one of the prominent actresses dropped out, Alba's role extended to two months. Alba replaced the actor because her hair resembled that of the actor! Two years later, in 1996, Alba acted in another film called 'Venus Rising.' In 1998, Alba was back in television as Melissa Hauer in a first season episode of 'Brooklyn South.' She made some small appearances in the famous TV series 'Beverly Hills 90210' as Leanne and as Layla in 'The Love Boat: The Next Wave.' She features in a Randy Quaid comedy feature called 'P.U.N.K.S' in 1999.

Alba gained popularity and prominence in Hollywood when she appeared as a snobby high school girl in 'Never Been Kissed' in 1999. Her co-actress in the movie was Drew Barrymore. What really drove her acting career to greater heights was 'Dark Angel,' directed by James Cameron. She played the role of Max Guevara, who is a genetically-engineered soldier. Once 'Dark Angel' was on the runaway, Alba was well on her way to becoming a star.

Jessica made a Hollywood comeback with the movie called 'Honey' in 2003. The year 2005 gave her another popular film and this time she was paired with Bruce Willis. The movie was 'Sin City' and Alba played the character of Nancy Callahan, a stripper or exotic dancer who has a tortured past. Alba's most recent adventure is the character of Sue Storm or the invisible woman from the 'Fantastic Four.'
