Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes, the 'Disturbing Behavior' actress was born on December 18, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio as Kate Noelle Holmes. She is the youngest
of the five children and her father Martin Holmes is a lawyer while her mother Kathy Holmes is a homemaker. Baptized as a Roman Catholic,
she attended the parochial schools in Toledo. Her first introduction to the bright lights was through modeling, which she started at the
age of 14. She joined Margaret O'Brien's classes and while on a tour with her at the New York City talent expo in 1996, she found an agent.
Hollywood Calling
Hollywood knocked at her door with the approval of the audition tapes sent to Ang Lee the casting director of 'The Ice Storm' in 1997.
Soon she found herself being cast in the role of Libbets Cassey with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver as her co stars. Her first major
leading role came in 'Disturbing Behavior' (1998), where she played the role of a loner. Holmes picked up the MTV Movie Award for Best
Breakthrough Performance for her role. IN 1999, Holmes played a supermarket clerk in Doug Liman's 'Go'. She moved on from 'Go' to the
'Wonder Boys' in 2000 where she had a six and one-half minute role but she still attracted a lot of attention from film critics. Another
film 'The Gift' came out the same year where she played the antithesis of Joey Potter with Cate Blanchett, Keanu Reeves, Gary Cole and
Greg Kinnear. This movie also marked her first nude role.
She had worked in a string of movies and television serials showing her as a loner, disillusioned person, suffering from anxiety etc.
So 'Abandon' in 2002 was no different. Written by Oscar winner Stephen Gaghan, it portrayed Holmes as a delusional, homicidal college
student named and her screen name was also Katie. The other films to follow in its footsteps were 'Phone Booth' in 2002 with Colin Farell
where the movie revolved mostly around Colin and the phone booth. From Colin Farells sweetheart in 'Phone Booth' she transformed to
Robert Downey, Jr.'s nurse in 'The Singing Detective' (2003). In 2003, she appeared in 'Pieces of April,' a comedy revolving around a
dysfunctional family. According to Variety, this was one of her best film performances ever. In January 2004, Holmes acted as the
US Presidents daughter in 'First Daughter,' which also starred Michael Keaton as the President and her father and Marc Blucas as her
love interest. 2005 saw her as Rachel Dawes in 'Batman Begins'. She received a Golden Raspberry nomination for "worst supporting
actress" for the film.

"I really can't deny it, I am who I am. I'm pretty normal. I'm not that smooth type of girl. I run into things, I trip, I spill food.
I say stupid things... I really don't have it all together." - Katie Holmes
