Hilary Duff
Hilary Duff is clearly one of the most sought after young pop musicians and
teen actress today. She has become a household name with her lilting voice and
wholesome style, behavior and attitude.
Hilary was born in Houston, Texas and is the second child to parents Robert
Erhard and Susan Colleen Duff. She has one elder sister named Haylie with whom
her mother encouraged to take up professional classes for acting.
At a young age, the Duff sisters took part in the ballet “The Nutcracker
Suite” in San Antonio, Texas. It was after this performance that Duffs decided
to take up acting seriously. The sisters relocated to California with their
mother while their father stayed at Houston and took care of the family
business. A lot of hard work and many auditions later Hilary and Haylie Duff
were finally being cast in a number of television commercials.
Ladder to Fame
Hilary’s acting career started on a sober note as her first appearance was in
the made for television mini-series “True Women” in 1997. Shortly afterward, she
played the part of an extra in William Carroll’s romantic comedy feature film
“Playing by Heart.” Her first major role was granted to her in 1998, when she
portrayed the character Wendy for the live action TV movie “Casper Meets Wendy.”
Hilary followed “Casper Meets Wendy” with the role of supporting actress in the
television movie in The Soul Collector (1999) where she won the best actress
award.
But it was Hilary’s chance role on the NBC sitcom “Daddio” that would directly
lead to her fame. Actor Michael Chiklis said at the time he believed beyond a
doubt that Hilary would go on to become a star.
Lizzie McGuire happened to Hilary Duff in 2001. It drew 2.3 million viewings
per show and was the best movie Hilary has done so far. Soon afterwards, she
became a child celebrity in the age group of 7-14. Next on line was A Cinderella
Story and even though the reviews were not so good the film was a normal hit.
Sound of Music
Hilary’s musical career is as colorful as her acting. This talented actress and
musician shot to fame with the Lizzie McGuire movie soundtracks. Her first album
was released in 2002 which included Christmas songs. The single “Tell Me A
Story” did extremely well on the US Billboard and finally got her the gold
certification.
Her second single “Metamorphosis” (2003) hit the #1 position on US and
Canadian charts and sold 3.7 million copies. Another hit single to follow
metamorphosis, “So Yesterday”, was featured on the top 10 charts with the video
being frequently played on MTV. She was fast becoming new music star on the
horizon.
This was when “Most Wanted” sold 1.3 million copies making it another hit in
March 2006. Hilary Duff is now well on her way to create her fourth studio
album, which is slated for release in December of 2006.
